Short Breaks In Stratford-upon-Avon
Stratford-upon-Avon is a lovely market town within the West Midlands region of England in the U. K. that is immensely well-liked by tourists. Mainly the town is amazingly famous for being the birthplace of William Shakespeare and despite the fact that the majority of customer attractions in Stratford-upon-Avon are related to the well-known poet and playwright there are plenty of other reasons to take a vacation within Stratford.
Located ninety one miles from Englands capital, London Stratford-upon-Avon is the place to see one of William Shakespeare’s plays especially at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Even though the town gets crowded with visitors it is still a amazing vacations destination.
The town has a huge selection of Jacobean and Elizabethan structures and in places such as Sheep Street and Henley Street are found those black and white half-timbered dwellings and other buildings. Henley Street is most well known for being where you will find the birthplace of Shakespeare, but it is also an excellent shopping precinct. The oldest house (still lived in) in Stratford is found on Sheep Street. The Shrieves House is believed to be the house in which Oliver Cromwell lived in prior to the second battle of Worcester but, unfortunately, there is no actual evidence to support the idea.
Stratford Art Galleries
Stratford is a stimulating town visually and the town features many superb art galleries including; the Montpellier Gallery, the Barge Gallery, the Country Artists Visitor Centre and the Retrospectives Art Gallery.
Other Tourist Attractions In Stratford
As well as the main visitor attractions of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Shakespeare’s Birthplace, Holy Trinity Church and Anne Hathaway’s Cottage there are plenty of other tourist attractions to interest you. Those visitor attractions which may be of interest to you include; Stratford Armouries, the Butterfly Farm, Stratford Brass Rubbing Centre and the Teddy Bear Museum.
One of the most striking features of the town is that it is built upon the banks of the picturesque River Avon. Nothing can be more pleasurable than taking a cruise on the river. Besides the River Avon Stratford-upon-Avon also has another waterway, the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal, which joins the Avon at Stratford.
The town is also ideal for cycling vacations as it has extensive cycle paths including the Stratford Greenway which runs along disused railway tracks. Touring the surrounding countryside is very enjoyable and a variety of beautiful places to visit, for example Clopton Bridge, are situated within an easy distance of the town.
