What Jobs are not going overseas: waitresses, cops, doctors and store-clerks? Green jobs now gone overseas too?

Maybe that’s an oversimplification but not by far.

After opening two years ago to much fanfare and with the aid of $58 million in state grants, tax incentives, and loans, a Devens, Mass., solar panel manufacturing plant closed this week, putting 800 out of work. The company, Evergreen Solar, plans to continue operating its newly built plant in Wuhan, China, where production costs are cheaper, according to a Worcester, Mass., newspaper account.

This is only wrecking our economy. What jobs are going to remain here, and where is the economic growth going to come in an economy that doesn’t produce anything but mainly buys things?

You are right we have become a service economy. this is the reason that the economy has not rebounded. If we don’t start to make things again then the economy will continue to to spiral lower and lower until it crashes. The problem is that businesses can open a plant overseas and pay those workers 10% of what they would have to pay an american worker. This means that for us the US to compete the economy will have to go thur disinflation(prices and wadges will have to fall to the point at which it will be economically feasible to open manufacturing plants in the US ). Until then only service jobs will be created here.
