Worcester, MA – Why is internet > cable+internet? Do I have other internet options?

I’m moving to Worcester and I am trying to arrange to get internet. Strangely, Verizon nor Comcast operate in this area, so I was told to call Charter communications. Charter told me that they offer internet at 35 dollars and cable+internet at 25 dollars at a promotional rate. I don’t have a television and I didn’t really understand this policy and because it’s a promotional policy anyways it didn’t sound like it would be worth my dollar to face the price of whichever plan I choose when the promotion ends. Does anyone know of any other options I have for having an internet connection in this area? I could pay to use my neighbor’s wireless but I don’t want to put my neighbor in a position to break his terms of service.

You can get DSL from Verizon (and possibly Comcast, not sure about that), it’s just cable internet service you can’t get other than from Charter. Some areas aren’t wired for DSL, but I imagine the majority of the city must be.

There’s public WiFi all over the place, including the public libraries, Starbucks, local coffee shops, etc.
