Oil painting tips, and what should i paint?

i got some oil paints for christmas (winton brand from aaron brothers) do you have any tips on using oil paints or any helpful techniques to know, i ve painted before but im new to oil painting. also i only have two canvases right now, not very big maybe 8″ but 12″ or smaller, so i want to make sure i paint something on them that i like and dont want to waste them. i cant decide between:
also i dont have a tube of black paint only blue red yellow and whit, brown. do i need black?

what sounds the best to you?

Don’t use turpentine or even turpenoid. They may not give you a headache, but they will kill brain cells, and are toxic. Use linseed oil, or a naturally made sort of turp. Also, mix your paints before you start painting, it makes it easier for you, and takes less time.
