Sweet Pea

Sweet Pea
In harvesting sweet pea seed, do you have to wait until the pods turn brown?

If I wait too long the pod opens and scatters the seed and it’s nowhere to be found. Birds? But when part of the pod is still green so are some of the seeds. Will the green ones grow next year or are they worthless?
But do you know if the green seeds are viable? If I let them go they will turn brown but have they “set”?

I’m experimenting with them now. I planted a green seed to see if it germinates.

Thank you both for your input.

Leave them on the plant as long as possible. Pick them and remove the seeds from the pod and allow to dry before storing them in a paper bag.
