Will Kate get to choose her own wedding gown?

Every time I see Diana’s gown, it bothers me all over again. Such a silly “little girl” dress, wrong color for her skin tone. Just awful. Bows and gewgaws. Nothing like the styles she was noted for later on.
Recently there was a documentary on royal weddings, and I saw Princess Anne’s gown. Superb elegance. What a showstopper!
So will Kate have the choice for her own gown? Or will those who are managing the wedding force their own choices on her?

OMG!!! I thought I was THE ONLY person in the universe who loved Princess Anne’s wedding dress. Wasn’t it phenomenal? And it never gets mentioned in any discussion of royal wedding dresses. Talk about a timeless classic–so perfect for the era, the time of year (November), the bride’s coloring. I could just go on and on. I can’t believe someone so young (and who would later be known for countless fashion “don’ts”), could exhibit such good taste and sense in choosing a wedding dress. Weren’t those sleeves cool as hell?!?!

I, too, thought Diana’s dress was a travesty. But, I actually liked the cream colored silk, just not the style. I wasn’t a fan of ruffles and bows even back in 1981 when they were coming back into style. I think pink-cheeked people with fair coloring look awful in white white, so I didn’t mind the color. I just didn’t think she needed to be wearing a costume from the 1830′s… especially with her punkrock racoon eyes and those bangs. Sarah Ferguson’s dress was THE worst, though, in my opinion: Tack-eeeeee. The Queen’s was not my favorite, but she certainly looked like a member of her own generation (which so many royal brides do NOT). And Princess Margaret looked like something out of a Disney cartoon with that big, cheesy crown and that poofy bouffant dress… but then, again, she was marrying a poof, n’est-ce pas? Sophie’s would’ve been better minus the shoulder pads.

Kate Middleton will definitely choose her own gown, but I’m sure the design will have to be inspected/approved by some ladies of the household/courtiers/secretaries/whatever. She can’t show up in just anything she wants. It will definitely be “strongly advised” that she choose an English designer, if not clearly stipulated in a signed contract. It’s going to have to be long and will surely have a train. I sincerely hope she doesn’t wear one of these strapless things that everyone has worn since 1997. I’m really tired of that particular look–especially on a church altar. Did you see that sea of bridesmaid bra-fat at Peter Phillips’ wedding? UGH!! I definitely don’t think strapless belongs in Westminster Abbey, and I’m sure the Archbishop of Canterbury would agree.

And for God’s sake, I hope she wears her hair up. I’m sick of all that long hair hanging out of hats. It’s amateurishly cute if you’re a teenager, but not when you’re nearly 30. Unforgivable if you’re the 60+ year old spouse of the heir to the throne. Don’t even get me started on HER. If you’re going to go royal, step up your game, ladies.

Joe Elliott’s Down n Outz Royal Albert Hall April 27th – superb!
