Roses Small

Roses Can Be Easy
Roses are really one of the simplest flowers to grow and will make your yard the envy of the neighborhood. There is a full collection of roses to decide upon. There are three main things to keep in mind when it comes to proper rose bush care. First, is rose bush choice, second, is how much water and fertilizer, and finally, apprpriate pruning. If you don’t have a good book on rose bush care may I recommend The Ultimate Book of Roses. It will list names of various roses and which ones are the hardiest with great photos.
The type of rose bush you select is of utmost importance. You want to choose a rose bush that will do well in your climate zone and in your yard in particular. Disease and fungus can plague some roses so it is best to steer clear of those varieties. On the other hand their are certain roses that can withstand a bit of abuse so to speak. Plant the rose bushes about 3 to 4 feet apart to allow enough room for them to flourish. Also, find a location that receives adequate sun.
The appropriate amount of watering and feeding is a necessary ingredient for taking care of roses the right way. We encourage watering early in the day, just at the roots. A recently planted rose needs to be watered daily for two weeks. After that a good soaking once a week should be sufficient unless the weather is extremely hot and dry. Mulch, bark or straw can be placed around the roses bushes to keep the soil moist and discourage weed growth.
Once Spring arrives feed and fertilize and then repeat once a month after that until Fall. Roses should receive rose food that has a blend of manure and fish emulsion. For best results, do NOT fertilize during the winter.
The biggest mistake most growers make in their effort to give good rose bush care is pruning. You only need to trim them when it is necessary such as when there are dead flowers or branches. To boost growth and blooms, count up from the branch three nodes (the small reddish growth lines) and cut there. In January or February they should be cut down to two feet to encourage fresh lush growth in the spring.
For more detailed information, the Ultimate Book of Roses will definitely answer all your questions.
