Roses Covered
About rose bushes, should the little knobby thing between the branches and the roots be covered or not?
I forgot what it is called. My husband always seems to mulch the roses too much, covering even the first few branches. I suspect that it is bad for them and they need to “breathe” a bit. What is the right way to do it?
Put the rose bush in the ground up to the knobby thing. (don’t worry about what it’s called, I forget too.) As far as mulch, I leave about a 2″ to 4″ circle around the base of the bush. Too much mulch can cause the roots to stay too wet or too dry and cause bugs or diseases and your rose bush might die.
