Qinghai Earthquake: See Map Of China Earthquake

More than 400 people were killed and more than 10,000 people injured this morning from the China earthquake that took place at 7:49 a.m., local time. The Qinghai Earthquake took off with a 6.9 shake and continued with aftershocks that clocked in at 5.3 and 5.8. A Tibetan area in the south of Qinghai province was hit by the China earthquake. The China earthquake today further hinders the debt repair of these poverty-stricken regions in China, considering last year’s 7.9 earthquake disaster.

Qinghai China earthquake recently

In the Qinghai earthquake, more than 90 percent of the building and houses in the neighboring areas toppled with the first major Qinghai earthquake. The China earthquake today also toppled a vocational school where students are trapped and buried. China has dispatched rescuers, tents, food and supplies to help the victims of the Qinghai earthquake, but the damaged roads, airports and communications systems are hindering rescue efforts. Many countries are already stepping in to provide fast cash loans, aid, and relief workers.

Map of China earthquake location

In the county of Yushu, the China earthquake today was centered in the township of Jiegu. The area is mountainous and rural, with a population of mostly farmers, sheepherders and tradespeople. Qamdo, Tibet is the largest nearby city.

Strength of China earthquake today

There were two different magnitudes reported for the Qinghai earthquake. Reading the Richter scale, the US Geological Service reports that the quake measured as 6.9 magnitude. However, agencies in China map the earthquake as 7.1 magnitude. There have been 18 aftershocks thus far, two of which have been over 5 on the richer scale.

Huge earthquakes causing considerable damage

Just a couple years ago, a huge China earthquake hit just 800 kilometers away from today’s Qinghai earthquake. That earthquake left over five million people homeless and another 87,000 dead or missing. In just the last three months, significant earthquakes have been seen in Haiti, Chile, Taiwan, Northern Mexico, and Indonesia. Most of the major activity is being reported as being a part of natural earthquake cycles. Fears of large earthquakes in other areas of the world, however, is being re-ignited by this China earthquake.
