Lidded Tureen

What kind of dinner service dish is this?
I have a 1881 Rogers of Canada serving piece and I can’t seem to figure out what you call it. It looks like a soup tureen, it’s four footed on short feet, has a lid and inside has a porcelain bowl and then a silver ring that lays in the bowl at the bottom and then in the middle of that a crystal flat round dish that looks like and ashtray. Any help please?
I don’t have the answer but there is a website www.replacements.com and you could ask them and I’m sure they would have an answer. They have responded to my requests for help identifying objects usually within 24 hours.
