Are gold fillings the best replacement for mercury amalgams?

I’ve had mercury amalgam fillings in my back teeth since I was a child. I’m concerned the metal continues to seep into my system. I’ve heard porcelain composites don’t last in back teeth, but do dentists still use gold fillings if you have the cash for them? And do they prove to be the best fillings?

gold is always the best restoration for your mouth. by best i mean that it will last the longest. they are quite a bit more expensive than silver fillings. if it was my mouth i’d get a silver filling. the american medical association just did a huge long term study on them and supported what the ADA has been saying forever….amalgams don’t hurt you! stop watching dateline and 20/20. trust me, i’d love for it to come out that you need to have all of your silver fillings taken out and replaced with something else. think of the profit!!! it would be like all of the plastic surgeons in the 80s that removed silicone breast implants and replaced them with saline.
