Doulton China

How do you remove old glue from the bottom of a bone china figurine?
It’s a Royal Doulton figurine, and there’s glue around the bottom of the item, where there is no glazing. What’s the safest route to effectively remove this?
Also, I know that you’re not supposed to get water inside the figurine…
Soak the bottom of the figurine in a bit of soapy warm water for 15-20 minutes, then pick the glue off. It may need more time if it is really stuck on.
