My friends old country cottage is named “longmead house”?

It is in the Herefordshire countryside on a hill next to a natural water spring overlooking fields of orchards and Hop fields, the area was renowned for cider production.
We are both puzzled as to the origin of such a name, any ideas?
The best we can come up with is it is an abreviation of “long meadow”

Mead comes to us from the Middle English mede, which in turn came from the Old English mǣd and, as you quite rightly suspect, means meadow. If you can locate some old maps of the area and get to have a look at them, you may even find evidence of an unusually long meadow either where the cottage now stands or very nearby.
