Why don’t coffee mugs get hot in the microwave?

I put my coffee mug in the microwave, full with water. The water get’s hot but why doesn’t the mug?

Microwaves make water molecules bounce and jiggle, creating heat. However, coffee mugs have a thin layer of air between the inner layer of the mug and the outer layer. This helps keep the heat trapped in and helps the outside of the mug stay cool.

If you put a clay or glass dish in the microwave, the heated water will also heat up anything it touches. This explains why a coffee mug with a layer of air between the inner and outer sides will not get hot.
