Church Plate

Church Plate
When they pass the plate at church is it a sin not to touch it ?

How do you know the people who passed it to you have washed their hand after going to the toilet ?

Although I’ve never touched a collection plate, as we don’t have them at Kingdom Halls of Jehovah’s Witnesses, I’d be more worried about viruses during flu season than the not washing their hands after using the toilet. Statistically, about half of the people you shake hands with haven’t washed theirs either.

What is wrong is the open begging for money that the collection plate (or whatever is used) represents. “You received free, give free” said Jesus and we are not to make a show of any contribution we may want to offer. We have discreetly placed boxes where one may contribute either to the worldwide work of JWs or to the local expenses of the Kingdom Hall, and you have to look to find them they are so inconspicuous. Nothing is ever demanded of anyone.
