Albert Berkeley

How do you explain the stagnation of wages in the United States?
Albert the shaded areas reflect capital gains.
The graph is from the University of Berkeley.
This graph goes up into 2006. Why does the Post-Reagan era show a relative stagnation in earnings(not including capital gains) since Reaganomics?

During Reagan’s time was when most of the females were entering the work force. I noticed the wages change during that time, more people less pay. Should have done it again around 1990, that’s when blacks entered in larger numbers.

The Fabulous Baker Boys $3.85 An inspired casting gimmick, a wonderful mood, a grown-up love story–all this in The Fabulous Baker Boys, but the only thing anybody ever talks about is Michelle Pfeiffer on top of a piano. Granted, it’s a showstopper: clad in a slinky dress, Pfeiffer rolls around on the Steinway while she purrs out a languid version of “Makin’ Whoopee.” Adding to the seductive vibe is the fact that she’s n… |

Diary of Anne Frank [VHS] $12.98 George Stevens (Giant) directed this 1959 film adaptation of the hit play based on the writings of Anne Frank, the Jewish girl from Amsterdam who hid in an attic with her family and others during the Nazi occupation. As Anne, Millie Perkins is something of a milky eyed enigma and–in retrospect–too old for the part; but she is surrounded by an outstanding cast, including Joseph Schildkraut as Ann… |

Shock $6.93 Shock is an enjoyable film noir that belongs in a subgenre–let’s call it the psychoanalytic murder melodrama–which flourished after the success of Alfred Hitchcock’s Spellbound. Here, the set-up is delicious: nervous wife Anabel Shaw, already anxious about her soldier husband’s delayed return home, witnesses a murder in a neighboring hotel room. Going into a deep state of–you guessed it–shock… |

2003 Domaine Albert Boxler Riesling Grand Cru Brand K Kirchberg 750ml Ripe peach, orange zest, and a dusty mineral-botrytis character in the nose lead to a honeyed, sultry, but dense and compact palate. The finishes here combines a formidably tactile sense of chalky minerality with honeyed, peachy richness. 91pts Wine Advocate 2004… |

2006 Domaine Albert Boxler Pinot Blanc 750ml This wine is pure and rich in fruit with noticeably aromas of ripe pears, and balanced. Yields were low, but this Pinot Blanc shows both crisp acidity and lush fruit; it has great aging potential…. |

2009 Domaine Albert Boxler Pinot Blanc Reserve 750ml This smells of granny Smith apples, citrus and white flowers. The plate is clean, crisp and fresh, with the great citrus fruit flavors with a rigid minerality. A delightful wine with a long, glorious future ahead…. |

The Stranger (Everyman’s Library) $6.48 The Stranger is not merely one of the most widely read novels of the 20th century, but one of the books likely to outlive it. Written in 1946, Camus’s compelling and troubling tale of a disaffected, apparently amoral young man has earned a durable popularity (and remains a staple of U.S. high school literature courses) in part because it reveals so vividly the anxieties of its time. Alienat… |

The Principia : Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy $39.99 In his monumental 1687 work Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica, known familiarly as the Principia, Isaac Newton laid out in mathematical terms the principles of time, force, and motion that have guided the development of modern physical science. Even after more than three centuries and the revolutions of Einsteinian relativity and quantum mechanics, Newtonian physics continues to account… |

The Assault on Reason $0.49 The first question many people ask when hearing of a new book from Al Gore is, “Is it about the environment?” The answer is yes, but it’s not (or, rather, not only) the kind of environment he wrote about in Earth in the Balance and of course painted such a vivid picture of in his Oscar-winning documentary (and companion book), An Inconvenient Truth. It’s the political environment he’s concerned ab… |
